Shirley Cain and the late Rev. Dr. LeRoy Cain Sr. of Lexington, and Deloris Holmes and the late Sgt. 1st Class Bobby C. Holmes of Columbia, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Michele S. Holmes, to Taji C. Thompson, both of Cleveland. He is the son of Rosetta Thompson of Winston-Salem, N.C.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Eau Claire High School and is employed with Lake Health Medical Center in Willioughby, Ohio.

The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckly, W.Va., and is employed with the Cleveland Division of Water.

The wedding is planned for 1 p.m. May 8, 2010, at Keenan House in Columbia.

The Museum has four large floors devoted to the disciplines of art, history, natural history and science/technology. It houses both long-term exhibits and five changing exhibit galleries.

On Oct. 29, 1988, the South Carolina State Museum opened its doors, bringing to the citizens of the Palmetto State the newest, and one of the finest, state museums in America. Since that day it has awed, delighted and enlightened millions of visitors.

The State Museum has more than 70,000 artifacts in its collection, and it is still a very young institution.

The State Museum is housed in its largest artifact, the former Columbia Mill. This former textile mill also is a world-first. When it opened in 1894, manufacturing cotton duck cloth (a canvas-like material), it was the first totally-electric textile mill in the world. It was also the first major industrial installation for the General Electric corporation. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Seawell’s Banquet and Reception Center first opened its doors in January of 1999. Since opening its doors, Seawell’s has averaged over 700 events a year at its new location. The banquet hall is approximately 15,000 square feet and can seat up to 1,000 people. The banquet hall can also be divided into six different rooms that allows us to host a number of events at the same time.

Seawell’s has not only been a favorite of the Columbia area since its opening, but has also played host to many important visitors to our city. In early 2000, Seawell’s hosted the Republican Presidential Debate which was viewed world-wide on Larry King Live on the CNN cable network. Seawell’s has also had the honor of catering events that have been attended by the last seven Presidents of the United States.

Seawell’s is centrally located just 2 miles from downtown Columbia, within a 10 to 15 minute drive of I-20, I-26 and I-77. The main parking lot has parking for over 260 vehicles with additional parking for over 300 more vehicles in fenced-in lots located on both sides of the main lot.
